Safer Streets, Enhanced Community: New Speed Limits Transforming South London's Roads

Exciting changes are on the horizon for our community, marking a significant stride towards enhancing safety and accessibility within South London. Transport for London (TfL) has recently unveiled plans to introduce new speed limits across a substantial area, encompassing major roads such as the A205: Woolwich Common, South Circular Road, Catford Road, Stanstead Road, London Road, Thurlow Road, Christchurch Road, Poynders Road, and Dulwich Common.

This announcement by TfL to implement 65km of new 20mph speed limits within several boroughs, including our own Royal Borough of Greenwich, is a promising step in aligning with the Mayor's Vision Zero goal. The focus on reducing speeds is pivotal in eradicating fatalities and severe injuries from London's transportation network, significantly impacting our local streets for the better.Untitled (76)

At the core of these upcoming changes lies the Woolwich Ferry Roundabout, a central hub in our community's daily commute. With reduced speed limits set to be implemented, particularly around this area, pedestrian safety will receive a substantial boost, especially concerning the zebra crossings into town. These measures aim to mitigate the risk of accidents, fostering a secure environment that prioritizes the well-being of all residents. The extension of these speed limit adjustments to prominent roads like the A205 signifies a concerted effort to create a safer and more inviting atmosphere for everyone in our community. These measures extend beyond mere traffic regulations; they invite residents to embrace healthier and sustainable modes of travel.

Encouraging walking, cycling, and increased reliance on public transport not only supports healthier lifestyle choices but also contributes significantly to alleviating congestion and reducing air pollution, rendering our neighbourhood more vibrant and environmentally conscious.

Let us enthusiastically welcome this positive change, as we collectively work towards shaping a community that prioritises safety, accessibility, and sustainability.
